Ella Fleur (B.1999)
Always attentive to the
quiet, unseen forces that shape our existence, Ella Fleur’s practice moves through memory and
world-building. Alternating between painting and digital media, her works propose that
landscapes are layered cultural constructs where past, present, and speculative futures
converge. Through expressive yet careful play, she stretches perception beyond ‘human’
systems of time and space, envisioning bodies existing beyond physical terrain and
inviting us to re/imagine alternative modes of being. Recognising the growing precarity of
our interconnected environments, Ella takes seriously the potential of dreaming as a
terrain for new collective desires to surface.
Misted forests, wandering figures, collapsing foregrounds and distant light-forms, these
motifs recur across her paintings and conjure dreamlike worlds where the unpredictable
will of her materials direct each composition. Often working with airbrush, ink and oil paint,
Ella builds technicolour layers that invite viewers into ambiguous spaces that poise
between the known and unknown, wonder and anxiety, desire and denial, light and colour.
Her practice is embedded in tensions between material and intent, allowing seemingly
opposing forces to coexist.
